The debut solo single from the Magic Dirt front-woman shows a stark difference from the pop-punk that she is known for, such as, say, Plastic Loveless Letter and Redhead.
The Repairer replaces the punchy guitars with stripped down, haunting piano-based instrumentation and mere hints of fuzzy electric guitars; but the real highlights are her yearning, powerful vocals, all showing off her spine-tingling song-writing skills.
Purveying an almost Patti Smith-style protest vibe (though this song lacks the excitement of Magic Dirt) it does present a promising maturation, which should indeed be apparent within her debut solo album, set for release next year.
