Single : Christina Perri

Title: Arms

Label: Atlantic

Release date:  28th November th 2011

Since the exposure of Jar of Hearts on American TV and radio last year, singer/songwriter Christina Perri from Philadelphia has been capturing audiences with her sweet voice and soft music, compellingly combined heart-wrenching lyrics. Her single Arms from the album lovestrong does just this and she is now making a name for herself in the UK.

Unfortunately, Christina Perri is for many just another example of a young female vocalist trying to bring an individual take on a pop song, adding some unconventional instruments like a glockenspiel to the mix in an attempt to be a little more alternative. It’s true that her sound is a familiar one. However, despite this seemingly unremarkable first impression that seems to take hold, after a closer listen the fragility, soulfulness and beauty of Christina’s music comes to light.

Honest, mellow and at the same time grippingly heartfelt, Arms is about the fear that comes with love and being afraid to let someone into your life. Addressing more complex emotions in songs can often lead to clichéd lyrical disaster, but Christina seems to carry it off with natural grace.
